Learning Outcome Context: you need to research

Originally my community was solely going to be about Football (Soccer) but I'm also apart of another special community, an online community, so I decided to fuse those two communities together.For my project I already had an idea of what I was going to create, a Photo Mosaic. So I did a little bit of research about it, Basically a Photo Mosaic is a large scale detailed photograph made up of many smaller picture's. Which was perfect for me because my community was an online community (Soundcloud). So everyone that followed me on Soundcloud, I could use their profile photo's as the smaller photographs to make up the large scale photo of someone in my football community.

So I had adjusted my aperture for a deeper depth of field. 

 I've also learnt what kind of photo's not to take.

Task Thirteen: Learning Outcome: Evaluation

I have gained a lot of photography techniques and skills during this course,
I had a lot of questions about photography and during this course most of them have been answered. Here are some pictures I've taken in my own time demonstrating what I've learnt.


Here's a picture I've taken of stray cat in my backyard, In this picture I had to be on a vantage point to take the picture, because I didn't want to disturb the cat. I had my shutter speed high so I could freeze the cat's movement if he did see me and ran, I would be able to capture a clear shot. I also zoomed in basically cropping the background, but I also wanted space around the frame.

In this is a picture I took of a picture of a couple of House Sparrow birds, that were sitting

on my neighbour's clothes line. In this picture I wanted to blur out the background and bring the focus to the birds. So I had adjusted my aperture for a deeper depth of field. 

Here I wanted to capture both a shadow and a bright object in one shot something different. Lines can also be seen in the pictures, the darker tree is kinda leading the attention and focus towards the brighter tree, I also cropped this picture, the original had a house in the shot. I lost the original but if you look to the bottom of the left, you'll be able to see the tip of the roof.

Heres a photograph I took of a friend dribbling with a football.

Before you start, you'll need to have an idea of you want to photograph 

The first thing your going to do is set your White Balance to suit your environment with this picture I had set the White Balance to (5200K Direct Sunlight) 

Then you want to set your ISO to something low cause you don't want an Overexposed photo, Especially if your outside in direct sunlight. So adjust your ISO suitable to your environment. (Note If you adjust the ISO too high you will get digital noise)

You also want to check your Shutter and Aperture because they both have a see-saw affect, when you change one the other get's affected. So you'll have to know exactly what you want to photograph.

Vantage is basically the relationship between the camera and the subject

Then you'll have to decide if your photograph is going to be have a foreground shot, middle shot or a background shot, also you'll have to decide what's going to be in those shots.

Next is a couple of composition techniques, one is to Simplify the scene which I've done ii the photograph above. There are many other composition techniques such as Filling the frame, Aspect ratio,Leading lines, Space to move etc. 

Framing is what we decide to include in the frame and what not to include in the frame. (Cropping) which is very important because it allows you to change the whole meaning of the photo. 

Lines can provide many elements to a photo movement, pattern, energy, etc. I did not use this technique in photograph. A powerful method of improving the composition of your photos is the use of lines. 

Colour is important when your taking a photograph, You could use complimentary colours, contrasting colours or harmonious colours to really bring out your picture.

Texture can often take the form of curves. These curves can be very effectively utilized for composition purposes.

Decide what Light your going to use, How bright do you want the light to be, Also decide the direction the light will be coming, I used Daylight in my photograph, lighting is important in controlling the image

The Community I choose is my local football club and in the photograph I took of a photo of a team mate dribbling with a football.

Interview With Jim Richardson

Jayden : What got you interested in photography ?

 Richardson : Well I grew up on a farm with my dad, He was
an amateur photographer,so that's what really got me inspired to get started with photography.

Jayden : What are some of your favourite things to photograph ? 

Richardson : Well I do a large range of subjects, Culture, Celtic world, Scientific subject's like GMO's (genetically modified organisms) I've done landscapes and a few others. So I do a big range of subjects.

Jayden : How did you get involved with National Geographic ? 

Richardson : Well basically I had been doing all these projects in cuba kansas, rossville etc. and that's what led me to some attention from the Photo Journalism world, That I was doing something interesting even tho it was in small time places. So I called up the director of photography at National Geographic Tom Kennedy and told him I was a freelance photographer and that was it.

Jayden : How necessary is a photographer in this new age, with all these photography applications ? 

Richardson : In this world, in which millions on pictures are taken and uploaded onto the internet everyday, there is still the necessity of Focus, because the great vast majority of those pictures are lacking the view point of someone who is alive today looking into their world and trying to make sense of what their seeing.

Jayden : What do you look for when your taking a photograph  ?

Richardson : I look for connection and excitement in a photograph. If I can't get the viewer to connect to the photograph I've missed the point.

Jayden : And finally what are some of your tips for someone who's new to photography ? 

Richardson : Think about taking useful pictures instead of good pictures and also don't be boring and use your camera to explore your surroundings and the world we live in.

Take a photo that uses reflected light

I took these two photos at home, The first thing I needed to do was get a Reflector.

I read that there are hundreds of different types of reflectors, which differ in sizes and colors, I used a reflective fabric I found in my garage.
